The future of energy infrastructure

In order to achieve the European growth targets for renewable energy, Europe's energy infrastructure has to be modified. In many countries the electricity grids must be massively expanded so that power can be transmitted from future renewable power generation sites to the centres of demand. The EU project SUSPLAN is investigating energy systems in European regions as well as on a transnational level. It aims to develop appropriate strategies up to 2050 for the large-scale integration of renewable energy.

During the international Conference in Berlin on December 7th the results of regional and transnational SUSPLAN scenarios will be presented and compared to current European plans for infrastructure development. Another focus will be set on required grid extensions and the challenges of gaining public acceptance towards it.

We would like to invite you to the conference to discuss these topics with policy makers from the European Commission as well as with acknowledged scientists and business representatives.

The EU project SUSPLAN is investigating energy systems in European regions as well as on a transnational level. It aims to develop appropriate strategies up to 2050 for the largescale integration of renewable energy sources beyond current EU targets. By taking an integrated approach, electricity, gas and heat infrastructure are treated holistically.
